कितने आते हैं, कितने जाते हैं,

कारवां चलते चले जाते हैं, 

कुछ न कहना, कुछ न सुनना,

बस दिल के रिश्ते बुनते रहना।

कुछ तुम सुनाओ उस कच्चे मकान की,

कुछ हम बतायें उन चीटियों की क़तार की,

कहीं तो आज भी रोशन होंगे वो चिराग़,

कहीं तो आज भी  उठती होगी चूल्हे की आग। 

कितने आते हैं, कितने जाते हैं.…

इमली के दाने, कच्ची निम्बोरी,

छोटी सी साइकिल, आमों की बोरी, 

कहीं तो आज भी क़ैद होगी खुशबू  इनकी, 

किसी दिल में रोशन होगी जुस्तजू इनकी। 

कितने आते हैं, कितने जाते हैं.…

कुछ तो मेरे साथ चला आया है

कुछ  तो मेरे साथ  चला आया है,

बस तेरा ख़याल चला आया है. 

गरमी की जब धूप झुलसाती है,

बस माँ तेरा आँचल लहराता आया है.

अकेले हो कर भी हमने जश्न मनाया  है.
